Becoming A Mom

I wanted to take a few minutes to share with you the story of the first half of my pregnancy. It is very personal to me, but I think some of you might like to hear it. So here goes nothing…

In May of 2015, I started dating my Curtis. We fell completely in love with each other within a few months. I had never met anyone like him and knew I never would again. He is without a doubt my soulmate. Getting back to the story, we had been dating for about 4 months when we found out. I had a really bad day at work which resulted in all of my coworkers telling me I have to be pregnant. So, I went home and took the test. Those 3 minutes of waiting were the 3 most excruciating minutes of my life. Well, they passed and 1-2 weeks popped up on the screen.

Before we told anyone, we went to the doctor to confirm it. Their test came back positive as well. My first due date was estimated to be May 11, 2016. I could now tell people and I was ecstatic. My parents, the scariest of all, were the first I told. The first look on my mom’s face was pure shock. The second was excitement at the thought of becoming a grandma. She has been so supportive. Telling my dad was a little more complicated. He lives in Indiana, so I had to tell him over the phone. I felt like I was going to throw up before I made that call. It was so worth it though because he showed nothing but love and support. I was definitely worried he would be angry.

At 6 weeks, I had my first sonogram. Hearing the heartbeat was surreal. My mother, who was with me, was all tears. I believe I cried a little bit too. It was the first moment I really realized what we had created.

January 21 was a very special day. It was the day when we found out the sex of our little miracle. The doctor was acting like she wasn’t going to tell us at first. She told me my tissue was dehydrated and I would have to come back in 4 weeks. It made it hard to get a clear measurement on the baby. Finally, she said that she had already seen the sex. We got a clear picture and found out we are having a baby boy. I was kind of hoping for a girl, but I am just as excited for this new adventure.

Curtis Roy Rackliff III’s due date, as of right now, is June 2. We can’t wait for him to get here. He is going to be one very well loved baby. If you have any advice for us, feel free to email us at You can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Have a great day!
